The conservation work that has been done at the river has become a symbol of the influence that community movements can have in Yogyakarta.

To promote the book on October 15th, 2016 a book talk titled “Awakening the Code River Community” in Mergangsan District Hall, Yogyakarta. Hosted by Mr. Totok Pratopo, the event was interactive and was attended by various communities along the Code riverbanks who provided feedback and input for the book.  The keynote speaker, Mr. Ag. Irawan, ST. M.Sc., motivated the participants to be more active in writing. “Writing a book should be given a deadline so that writing can be solved, because the passion is there already,” said Mr. Irawan.

Mr. Irawan explained that the book is complete, and it contains a lot of things related to the Code river, including historical, economic, social and cultural aspects. The next series is expected to include more details about the discussions related to the Code river. In more detail Mr. Irawan discussed other people who were instrumental in the process, including Romo Mangun who was already well known by many people.

It is expected that book’s presence will ignite feelings of pride in the society, as it proves what can be done when a community works together to restore the environment.
